Helen Oyeyemi "Mr Fox"

We recently talked about Helen Oyeyemi and here is my review of her fourth novel “Mr Fox”

In Mr Fox Oyeyemi uses her trademark magic realism to blur the boundaries between the real and the fictional, questioning what it is to be alive. There are stories within stories, slipping times and locations, at times you are not sure where memories and fantasies collide and divide. So if you prefer a linear narrative, this is not the book for you unfortunately.

Oyeyemi peoples her text with ghosts, dreams and talking animals, burrowing through the surface of the everyday to reveal the bizarreness beneath. Yet the core concern is with human suffering. With wit and wisdom, Mr Fox explores how stories can hurt or heal. Stealthy as a fox, this novel creeps into the imagination …
